Since TWI was identified by the War and Manpower Commission in the 1940s many things have changed. The five needs haven’t and are easy to see in the people we refer to as ‘very effective leaders’. What are these needs that we require anyone who directs the work of others to exhibit daily?

Training Within Industry (TWI) Job Relations

A countermeasure for leaders when they see or anticipate ‘Won’t/didn’t do, doesn’t care’.

At the centre of Job Relations is ‘results through people’. A leader in any situation being work, sport or conflict such as the World Wars, cannot get the results themselves. If we try (‘easier to do it myself’) we will become quickly overburdened, quickly finding that it is impossible. There is only one choice; create real followers who by nature will trust us, cooperate with us, and provide us with honest feedback.

A countermeasure for leaders when they see or anticipate ‘Doesn’t know, can’t do’.

Nearly every person will find a way to do a task that is new to them. Be sure, they will find a way, but it may well not be the way that ensures quality, safety and productivity. Job Instruction is a proven way of quickly training employees to do tasks the way you need them done – correctly, safely and conscientiously.

At the centre of Job Methods is making the best use of resources available now. It is the skill of studying how the work is happening and then, in a systematic and logical way, proposing and establishing a less risky, easier, perhaps more reliable way of doing it in order to get the required outcomes.

TWI Knowledge Certification is a flexible on-line program providing precursory Training Within Industry knowledge to accelerate individual and organizational results. This program offers video lessons and certifying questions identified by TWI Institute Senior Master Trainer Patrick Graupp. Upon successful completion of all questions you will receive your TWI Knowledge Certificate.

We are working with Oscar to develop a training pathway for new starters, building their knowledge and skills to enable them progress onward, maximising our human capital. The system covers the knowledge and skills needed, who will pass them on, and how.

Throughout this project Oscar has involved the experienced staff in the building of the knowledge and skill material, increasing the likelihood of a sustainable system, owned by our people.

Oscar has helped us develop a system of learning, in our own often fast paced environment that has the required consistency to ensure the quality required with the flexibility to accommodate the needs of the individual. He has made the step by step requirements clear, and reliably follows up on the tasks he is driving, carefully insisting and helping us reach each step of the project.

My thought on the training:
We had a wonderful 2 weeks of training on TWI covering JI and JR. JI is a very effective training methodology that we can apply in many areas. We were completely convinced that it can helps in shorten our training lead time, improve the efficiency and quality in our worker’s performance. How good if we can get to know this earlier!!

JR on another note is very much a soft skill training. On the first perception, it seems like a general knowledge; something that we were being taught in any leadership training. However similarly to JI; there’s a pattern of learning that we need to develop that is matter. Most of the time we know what should be done but we just failed to do so. JR will definitely address that as we will handle the issue steps by steps till that become a habits.

Trainer:
Oscar is a seasoned trainer, very knowledgeable in the subject. He carried out the training in his most professional self and accept no nonsense from the group. He has a sharp observation skill and always able to bring out the best from each student.
